Announcing: DEATH SCENE BLOGFEST!!!

which, for dramatic purposes, will be called....

The Blogfest of Death
(mwahahahahahahaha)

I held a little poll here on my blog, and the Death Scene was hands-down winner, so here's what I'm proposing to you...

The Task:

Kill someone.

(a fictional someone, pretty please)

Sound easy? Good for you (although slightly worrying), but I've always had trouble killing off any of my characters, no matter how desperately they need to die for the story to happen. So here's the chance to practice.

Do you have a vampire/zombie/ghost in your story? Don't they have to die at some point? Here's your chance to tell us all about it. You want to share the blood-chilling bone-thrilling hero-defeats-villain scene with us? Go ahead, can't wait. Does your MC lose someone (s)he loves, providing motivation throughout your story? Well, what happens? Are you seriously peed off at your MC or some sidekick or another, and want to show them that you're the boss? Here's your chance, just kill them off now, work out all that anger and frustration...

Whatever you want to write about is ok, only someone has to die. Resurrections are acceptable, as are magic-induced returns to life, but I don't want to see any of what the French call 'le petit mort', because my dears, nobody dies there (and yes, I've given this a lot of thought). ; P

Be as funny or as serious as you like, make us laugh, make us cry, only please no scenes that are nothing but blood and gore. I'm looking for at least some story or character development, here! After all, we want to hone our skills, right?

The Requirements:
  1. You have to follow my blog (because this is a secret attempt to take over blogland mwahahaha)
  2. Sign up on the link list below by July 18th at the latest (make sure you use a correct site link; if I can't find you, that ain't good)
  3. Advertise my blogfest on your blog with either the banner or the button I provide below, and you can also twitter or Facebook about it (you get one extra entry each for that, so let me know per comment, especially FB&Twitter, so I don't miss it) (has to be up by July 10th at least)
  4. Write your death scene (duh) - please keep it under 1000 words (no word police, just courtesy)
  5. Post it on the site you've linked to on July 18th (why that date? Because I need time to kill my character, and I'll be on holiday beginning of July...)
  6. Link back to this site so people can come read the other entries, too.
  7. Read other people's posts and leave comments - you don't want to end up with just me commenting either, do you? Huh?
  8. HAVE FUN!!
NB for Twitter...use #blogfestofdeath

The Prize:

I'll be chosing a winner from your entries in a suitably random way; said winner will receive a $ 10 Amazon.com voucher. Definite entry bonus if you advertise my 'fest!!!

Winners will be announced in a timely manner, depending how many of you take part in this little adventure - I'll need time to read all entries, after all!

The Link List - SIGN UP HERE OR ELSE!
IF THE LINKY DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU, PLEASE TRY AGAIN. IF IT STILL DOESN'T WORK LET ME KNOW AND I'LL FIGURE SOMETHING OUT!

Advertising The Blogfest of Death:

Here's what you can put up on your blog/website to advertise my blogfest:

<a href="http://tessasblurb.blogspot.com/2010/05/announcing-death-scene-blogfest.html"><img src="http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac108/tessaconte/deathbutton.jpg" width="100%" height="120" " /></a>
or for your sidebar:

<a href="http://tessasblurb.blogspot.com/2010/05/announcing-death-scene-blogfest.html"><img src="http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac108/tessaconte/deathbutton2.jpg" width="100%" height="150" " /></a>
Now, I wrote these codes myself, and I'm no expert - so if they don't work I'm really sorry. Let me know and I'll try to fix it, but you can also just copy the images and link those from your blog to here.

*fistpump* YESSSSS

FINALLY

A BLOGFEST I CAN ACTUALLY DO WITHOUT PEOPLE COMPLAINING.

*hugs* And now to trawl through my GAZILLION murder scenes..

Mia said...

*prods tessa* Um, I don't want to appear stupid but eveytime I try and copy the html it says "function disabled"

That's cool, I can copy by hand, but it might make it harder for people to enter so they might not bother? Just a thought.. :)

Tessa Conte said...

oops sorry could you try again now I think I fixed it...

Oh man, this sounds like great fun! But I don't have anyone who dies yet... I'll see :-)

Mireyah Wolfe said...

Um...it totally counts if the main character is killing someone right? O.O

Angela M. said...

Oooh. I can't wait for this one! Okay, so a wee bit of blood is alright, right?

Angela M. said...

@Mia: Isn't choosing the toughest part? I just love (faux) killing people. Must be all the horror stories I used to write :)

Tessa Conte said...

@ Angela M : you can have a whole load of blood, too! What I meant was no "There was loads of blood and gore and gratuitous violence and people die and nothing else happens and there's no purpose", am I making sense?

@ Mireyah: Totally. Of course, if you feel like it, you can kill your MC, too. I do that a lot (in my head) he gets uppity. ; )

Sangu said...

Yay! Definitely in!

Yikes, I hope I remember!

You're a book

I've added you to my page, and I will start working on an entry. (Just so you know, I probably won't actually put my link on the list until I have an entry.) But I will be back. :)

Count me in! I'll try super hard to remember to post it before I go on holiday. I got the link up, too.

Raquel Byrnes said...

ooh! Can't wait! I have to write one for a WIP and I've been too afraid to try. Thanks for the motivation!

Roland D. Yeomans said...

Mwahahaha! Death Blog. What a concept. Of course I'm in. I know already the scene I'll use. It shows the reader why Samuel McCord kills so seldom -- and what price he pays for it.

Tessa Conte said...

@ Roland - welcome!

elizabeth mueller said...

Tessa! I can't wait for this! This will be so fun...Thank you for joining my blogfest, I know it's strange and unusual, but I have a bonus for all those who were brave enough to join--you're my hero! ;)

Tessa Conte said...

@elizabeth: Can't wait either! This is gonna be great fun! And yes, I had to gather my courage to schedule that post...ah well embarrassement in small measures is supposed to be good for you....

Delia said...

I'm in! *evil cackle*
Off to kill some people (and put up the button, of course).

Delia said...

*sniff* My link didn't appear. I don't want to screw you up by linking twice if it's not necessary, so let me know if it's necessary, k? (I'll check back.) I wouldn't want to miss out on being a part of the carnage. :)

Thanks! Uh, I mean, MWAAAHAHAHAHAHA!

Delia said...

Blogged and tweeted, M'dear.

Tessa Conte said...

@Delia YAY!

Misty Waters said...

I must have serious problems with the entering of the blogfests! Can you make sure I'm on your fancy list? I wanna play, too!

Tessa Conte said...

@ Misty...hmm not sure what's up with the list...you're not up right now but perhaps if you try again? I won't hold double entry against you!!!

Misty Waters said...

Okay:) Trying again!

Tessa Conte said...

Hmmm in case a 'just testing' link turns up on the linklist, this is just me trying to figure out the problem with the listy thingy. Apparently it's in a bad mood...sorry guys...trying to fix it...

Stumbled on your blog by accident, LOVE your 10s choices, signed up for your blogfest, became a fangirl, and linked from my blog. What more could you want from a total stranger.

Also, you're a candle (Haiku riddle).

Lovy Boheme said...

I moved my blog over to Blogger.com, so I entered a second link. Sorry! I don't know if the first one can be removed or not.

Babydoll said...

Everytime I try to sign a linky thing, my name refuses to show up. What am I doing wrong? LOL

C Bailey said...

Great blogfest! Can't wait.

Juanita said...

I've signed up, got your lurvly image in my sidebar and have tweeted! Woo!

Tura Lura said...

Love this idea! I shall try to play along.

Of course, I don't have a scene I can use for this at the moment... I've got a few that need to be written, though, so hopefully I'll have one done in time. ^_^

Deniz Bevan said...

Guess what? I do have a death scene after all! Yay, I've joined up! And written a blog post announcing it...

clutterbug said...

This sounds like fun. I've never taken part in a blogfest before. I have tried to join up but my link just doesn't seem to want to appear. I am 'following' you however... and have a death scene (though I am afraid it is fairly ordinary but oh well) ... I have tried a couple of times to join up :( Should I try again or trust that I will show up on your list sooner or later?

Tessa Conte said...

OK, I did another test run of the linky thingy because apparently some of you've had trouble with it...

It seems to work for me so I'm not sure what the problem is...

If it doesn't work, could you please try again? THEN if it still doesn't work please just post a link to your site in the comments and I'll figure something out...

clutterbug said...

:( still not working... I'll keep trying over the next few days.

I have added your blogfest of death pic/link to my blog :)

Cheers and thanks for 'following' me too :D

clutterbug said...

Yay!! Thanks Tessa ... I can SEE me now ... :)

Roh Morgon said...

I found this a little late, but will throw my hat into the ring anyways. Death scenes can be really cool, or really sad. I have a number of them in my WIPs - I'll need to figure out which one to use. Or maybe I'll write a new one!

I linked your contest to my blog.

In the meantime, you might want to check out a contest I'm hosting called Character Contest #1. You can find it here:

http://www.rohmorgon.com/blog/?p=287

Christine H said...

I just signed up and put the link on my blog.

I'm too tired and uncaffeinated to haiku.

Valerie said...

Me too, I am late but I want to play! Even if I don't get into the contest, this is still too fun to pass up.

Tessa Conte said...

@Valerie YAY! Come join!

salarsenッ said...

Hi! I just hopped over from another blog. I love your blog. Nice job. Don't have time to participate, but I think it's a great idea. I'm having a blogfest in a few weeks. Come join us. I'll put your widget on my blog!

Donna Hole said...

Weirder and weirder . .

I know I signed up for this like, ages ago, when you first announced it. And commented. Hmm . .

Well, if my link comes up a second time, I guess that's ok.

........dhole

Nicole Murray said...

I posted mine! I have also been advertising on my blog and now on my FB page. Links on my blog. I look forward to reading some scenes of death this weekend!

Wulfie said...

I've never done one of these before so I hope I did everything right. I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to puter linking and such.

I posted your link and banner on my site, linked to you, am following you, and tweeted it. I don't have facebook.

No idea on the haiku, is the goalies like in hockey? Can ya tell I've never even watched world cup? lol

C Bailey said...

I screwed up. I tried to blogfest twice in one week without realizing the commitment I made.

I apologize to anyone who clicked on the Peevish Penman link and was disappointed. ...And as the pitiful blogger typed the comment on Tessa's page explaining why she missed the Blogfest of Death, a box of rabid koalas fell from the sky, crashed through her ceiling, and landed on her hideous green leather sofa.

But Carrie was hardly surprised. She always knew it was going to end this way.
