ANNOUNCING: Outside of My Box - Blogfest/Competition

So,  my dearies, I've been thinking. *gasp* Yep, I do that on occasion. I've recently discovered that

ZOMG I HAVE >200 Followers!!!

And have been trying to come up with a way to celebrate. Well, I figured it out! Yay! I'm going to host another Blogfest! Or should I say Competition

Now, I know that a lot of you found my They're People, Too-Blogfest a challenging concept, something you actually had to work at, something that stretched your writerly muscles. This meant that I didn't get that many entries, BUT what I got was some of the best stuff I've seen off you guys so far. You really did stretch yourselves, let your imaginations run wild, and came up with great concepts, all of which were brilliantly executed.

So I've decided to throw down the gauntlet again. I hereby challenge you, YES YOU, to enter my

Outside of My Box - Blogontest
(LOL Blogontest...get it?)

Here's what I'd like you to do....

  1. I want you to write something OUTSIDE your comfort zone. Write a short piece in a genre you don't normally touch. Say, if you write romance, try horror. If you do sci fi, try historical fiction. If you're a manly man, write some chick lit *insert evil laugh right about now*. If you usually do original fiction, try some fan fic. You can even post something autobiographical if you like, just as long as that's not something you usually do.
  2. How much you write is up to you. It can be a scene, a short story, a piece of poetry, flash fiction - anything goes, just keep in mind that longer bits of writing should be broken up by line breaks or maybe pictures to make reading them via blog easier on the eyes.
  3. The contest is open til 5th December. Yes, that long, because I know a lot of us are doing NaNo this year, and anyway, I want you to think about this and REALLY, TRULY challenge yourself. You'll need time to do that.
  4. Please only sign up on the linky list with the DIRECT LINK to your ACTUAL ENTRY. Because this contest is going to run for a while, if you just link to your blog in general, people (including me) won't be able to find your contribution.
  5. I'd appreciate anything you did to promote this contest. Yes, I'd like you to follow my blog, too *here goes the evil laugh again*, but really I think the more people join in, the more fun we can have. Post on your blog, use facebook or tweet (#blogontest). You can grab the logo up there and add it to your sidebar, too.
  6. On 7th December, I'll be posting a shortlist of 5 entries, upon which you then get to vote.
  7. There shall be 3 prizes... I'm not sure yet what, I'll do an updated post on that. If anyone would be willing to sponsor something, say a book they wrote (or a bookmark for the book they wrote LOL), that would be GREAT FUN. I promise to do plenty of plugging if you do.
  8. The contest is open worldwide, but if you're shortlisted and you live somewhere other than USA, Canada or Europe, please do let me know in advance so I can check out prize-shipping options. Depending on how difficult that turns out to be, there might be a substitute prize (Amazon.com voucher).
What do you think? Good idea? Willing to put yourself out there, do something different for once?

I dare you!

So here's the linky list... please remember to post the ACTUAL ENTRY LINK (so you probably won't be able to link right away).

Even if you don't want to join or you don't feel you CAN leave your box (and let me just say that while that's fine, it might make your muse happy to do something different for once), go on and check out what  the others have written. In particular, check back on Dec 7th to VOTE on the shortlist!

Congrats on the 200+ followers! Sounds like a great idea for a 'fest, though I haven't such a wide date-span before. Count me in, probably before NaNo as warm-up. ;)

Cool! I figured since it was a little more challenging I'd leave more time, and I kind of have to ignore the existence of November due to Nano, so Dec 5th it is...

Can't wait!

Sweet, I'm gonna need all that time to figure out what to write. I'll put your badge and contest description in my upcoming blogfest tab : )

I'm in, though I have no idea what I'm going to write about. I'm thinking lit-fic, or maybe romance. Neither of which do I have a real clue how to write.

I'll definitely be announcing this on my blog, and I'll be back with a post.

Wow Tessa, you have the best ideas.

Good luck on your trip, and congrats on the 200 followers. Perhaps it will be 300 by the time this blogontest is finished.

Yeah, I goofed and added my link before I'd even written anything. *facepalm*

Now it is the weekend before NaNo and I actually wrote something! I shall post it on Sunday - Halloween - even though it isn't Halloweeny at all. I may have to create a new link for it, tho.

Sorry for not understanding your directions. The wide date span, it confused me. *blush*

LOL no problem!

Okay, off to write something out of the ordinary, cuz I'll do anything to procrastinate from what I'm actually supposed to be writing! Hopefully you'll get a linky post from me soon! And your blogfest announcement is posted on our sidebar. Great idea and congrats on 200 followers! christy

HI Tessa,

I posted my entry, but I made an era with the first one I submitted. I can't delete it, but I hop you can. It's number 19.... I re-entered at 20.

Thanks,

Michael
